If you have been in Online marketing for any amount of time you are already aware that backlink developing can give a huge boost to your Internet business. And a few years back, trading links together with other websites was looked upon as being a great way to build backlinks. Now that so much has changed within search engines like Google the question becomes, is it still truly worth all the difficulty? In this post we are going to be looking at just that, in order to inform you about the answer.

Let me start off by explaining what a backlink is, a backlink is an url that is on one website which points to another website. These backlinks are generally viewed as votes for your Internet site by the major search engines. So in essence the more inbound links you have pointing to your site the higher your site will rank in the major search engines. Having said that you also have to comprehend that not all inbound links are created equal. For example if you have a link on an Internet site that has a page rank of 4 and that website link is on the home page, it is worth more than the same type of link found on a different page of that site. You need to look at the actual page rank where your link is located to ascertain its value, but the home page rank might make a slight difference in value.

When people trade backlinks with other websites normally those other websites have a separate page on their site where they place the web link for your website. So you aren't getting the same results from that backlink, that you would from the home page of that website. Websites that will make use of link pages can end up getting hundreds of other links on the same page. Google doesn't like to notice this kind of thing so obviously these backlinks are not actually counted.

Google also gives more recognition to one way backlinks than they give to sites that trade links. For those of you who're unaware an one way link is actually when you don't have to link back to the website that has your link on it. When Google views one way links they provide that link more strength than a link which has been exchanged. Something else you will have to be mindful of is trading backlinks with sites that Google doesn't like as this could hurt the reputation of your site. And that is the exact opposite thing you're trying to accomplish.

Trading links can be good for you if the website is trusted, has a good page ranking and also carries a steady flow of visitors. There is always the possibility that Google is not going to even index a deep page which has loads of links on it, so if your link ends up there, it is worthless. But that is exactly what a lot of people do when they trade links. To summarize, when you can your better off building one way links and there are plenty of ways to accomplish this, but swapping links is a thing that is going by the wayside.
