Having more than one dog to train at a time will be a challenge. However, if your dogs distract each other while training, try training each one separately first, then work with them together.

If you choose to use a harness exclusively, you will have less control over your dog which might lead to a frustrating training experience. When you use both a collar and a harness, and only tug the collar when you need to, the dog will learn that he or she must behave while they are in the harness, too.

Keep your dog on a healthy diet. Eating a poor diet will negatively affect your dog in many ways. This is not just bad for the dog's health; it may also play a role in their negative behavior. Simply improving their diet may have a bigger impact on how they respond to training.

One way to ensure your dog's cooperation during the training process is to know what type of treats it prefers. Your dog will work harder to get the food that he/she loves so much. Be sure to analyze how your dog acts when given the reward.

If a dog is experiencing separation anxiety, you need to increase its base of social support. By developing other relationships, the dog will be able to become less attatched to you.

It's best when the entire household is helping with dog and puppy training. Even if there's one person who regularly oversees training, having the entire family involved will teach the dog that, he too, needs to consistently follow the household rules.

Commanding control is the very first step in training your dog. The dog will have little respect for you and it won't obey if you do not show that you are the one in charge. When you walk your dog, walk in front of him to establish leadership.

The sooner you start training your dog, the better. Young dogs have more resilient brains and are easier to train. When you train your dog as a puppy, he will be a well-behaved dog throughout his life.

If you want to train your dog to complete complex tasks, divide that task into steps to teach him. One simple task you can teach your dog is to retrieve the morning paper. The first thing that your dog needs to learn is how to hold something correctly. He will then need to know what the object is by name. After this, teach him to pick the object up. Lastly, you should teach him to bring the item to you. As you break the behavior down into simple steps, your dog will soon grow to master the entire task you want him to complete.

When you know that you need to be gone for a few hours, take your dog for a long walk before you depart. If your dog is exhausted, he won't experience as much anxiety when you leave.

If you are welcoming a guest into your home, give them clear instructions about how to interact with your dog. These are the kinds of things that will lead to jumping on guests or cause the dog to try and establish dominance.

Having been said before, getting a dog trained will be a great investment. An untrained, misbehaving dog can chew your furniture, scare the neighbors and stress your family. Use the methods found in this article to train your dog properly and make them a beloved member of the family.
