Tent Camping is a popular alternative to traditional vacations because you are closer to nature, because of the relatively low expense of it and being able to travel and explore different parts of the country. The memories made are vivid and photographs you take can be retained forever in scrapbooks or memory albumns.
Purchasing the ideal size of tent that meets your family needs and size is ideal. There are many shapes and sizes to choose from when it comes to tents. There are even ones now that have multiple rooms, open ceilings, separate doors and entrances and are large enough to hold queen size inflatable mattresses. It really is incredible how far outdoor camping has come as well as how inexpensive these items are.
A lot of people also buy tents to house tables and food. They are also used as shelter from the elements and weather. Many campgrounds have wild animals that love to get into your belongings, especially food. Tents and shelters are useful and effective in keeping these critters out where they belong, in the woods. Sometimes in the heat of the day, or in the dreariness of rain, tents are perfect for staying dry or out of the sun. This is a good time to join together around a table and play cards or boardgames.
Another enjoyable event while outdoors is having a campfire. You can cook a hotdog, sing songs or tell ghost stories. Campfires provide warmth, wonderful aroma and light during the dark evenings. At night a campfire becomes the focal point for your family in a way that is unique to camping.
While in the campground, be sure to get out into the fresh air and explore trails. Not only is this good for your health, but also a good way to investigate your surroundings and nature. Perhaps along the way grab a fallen tree branch and use as a walking stick. These become very useful while walking. Clear brush or weeds, use as a lever, lean against, use to keep your balance, etc...
Most campsites also have a swimming area at a lake, pond, or pool. What better way to cool off from the heat of the day, or that walk you just took than a fresh dip in the water! Many natural lake and ponds keep a pretty regular temperature. This is very refreshing and a great way to unwind and relax. While you are around the water there may be opportunities to boat or fish. Kayaking and canoeing can really be fascinating and great adventure, not to mention good excercise.
When you're back at the tent and common area, kick back and grab that book you've been wanting to read forever ago. Or tackle a word search or any other mind game that keeps your brain entertained, but off of the daily grind back home. It's very relaxing to be able to cuddle up in a blanket and lose yourself in these kinds of activities.
Many people make tent camping in campgrounds a family affair. From bringing along the children to inviting the grandparents and other relatives, camping is multi-generational and fun for everyone. The ultimate goal is to make memories and perhaps start a tradition. There are many places to go, some close enough to enjoy in a day or two, others that are well worth the travel and making into a week long vacation or longer. Remember to enjoy the trip getting there, it's also a part of the experience.
